A Busy Couple of Week-ends in the Capitol (Wellington) NZ CONTINUED. Following on from the INDIE FEST on the 5th (see below) I was back down in Wellington Saturday the 11th to join the NZ Police contingent at the Wellington International Pride Parade! This all came about from entering and winning an on-line competition to design a logo to go on T-shirts worn by staff, friends and family for the Police Pride events in 2019 [see NZ Herald News Story at Mangaweka artist winner of national T-shirt design competition ] Part of the prize was to march with the Police at Auckland Pride, yet, as most will have heard, there was a bit of a disagreement with the current Akl Pride Board about Police being allowed to march in uniform, and as a result that parade did not go ahead, BUT Welcoming Wellington opened it's arms to everyone and their parade steamed forward with gusto, as thousands joined in and lined the streets to celebrate. As the theme was 'Fire' I donned the good old 'Light My Fire' hat, as worn on NZGT [ see YouTube -NZGT Episode 4: Richard Aslett at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A08bbTGn7Oo]. This fitted the 'Bill' perfectly! The Parade really was quite an experience, with the Police getting a very warm reception from tall he crowd, plus I got to meet and chat with the Top Cop himself, Police Commissioner Mike Bush (see picture) and a heap of other friendly cops, staff and other people in the contingent. Also got some additional great colourful shots (for more images, go to my gallery web site at Mangaweka Yellow Church Gallery ). Well done to WIPP committee and volunteers for putting on such a successful event. Cheers, Richard Aslett
