Hello Art, Music and Festive Season Lovers!

Just a quick update of recent happenings!  As previously announced Graham Christensen's exhibition is now back up and running with some amazing pieces of rural art for those with a rustic rural taste! (see previous News story). As well as that, the Gallery has been ticking away nicely as we head into summer… And as you know, summer in NZ equals the onset of The "Silly Season" and the very fast approach of Christmas!

To this end, it was an honour to be asked to judge the Taihape Christmas Parade once again this year (after missing last years due to it being on the exact same day as the opening of Fakes & Forgeries). Pania Winiata and the Taihape Development Trust did a wonderful job and managed to attract around 20 glitzy entrants and floats to this year's event. Myself and fellow muszo and artist Cynthia Hammer had the arduous task of judging (see picture) and sorting the wheat from the chaff. Yet, as it was, there was very little chaff! Just quality wheat!!

Organisations, individuals, schools, church groups , volunteers  and trades folk had put in some fantastic effort and made choosing the Winners a most difficult task! Anyway, as difficult as it was, three places were to be awarded and myself and Cyn finally agreed on… In third place; Taihape Honda with the McQueen School of Dance and their stunning array of display titled 'Santa and the Gumboot'. Second was the hilarious sight of Santa taking a shower on the back of a large Ute! With running water 'an all! Also towing a very festive trailer was Mat Hobbs Plumbing as runner-up. Well done. Yet the 'Overall winner' this year was…. Roll on the Drums!! With a very impressive set of vehicles, all decorated and colourful, plus a seasonal float brimming with joyous young children enjoying the day, and at the very back, ending with an old tractor, complete with antlers on the front (plus the rest!!), yes it was ….. Byford's Construction Ltd - Great effort guys!

Ok well next up is the real deal. Hope to make a post before then, yet if I don't - MERRY CHRISTMAS Everybody! Cheers, Richard
