The New Variants! name came about after deciding the bands prior 'temporary' name of 'Fredwood Max' needed replacing, so the band undertook a search of the vast World Wide Web for a 'topical' name that had not already been taken...After many suggestions that had either been taken or were subsequently discarded 'The New Variants!' was finally decided upon!
The New Variants! comprise of long-time 'Taihape Musicians Club' membersFred & Cyn Hammer and Richard Aslett, joined in more recent times by 'Rangatua Rocker' Mike Bly on lead Guitar. Playing an eclectic mix of mainly cover songs (at this stage!) they have a huge selection of tunes to please all ears, from the 50's right up to today, with quiet duets, poppy dance numbers, four-voice harmonies, to out and out rocking good tracks!
